Hilton Head rental home booking tips:
Getting the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. New to the Rental Market! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
