Tricks and tips to get the best vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Hilton Head. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the best rental in Hilton Head:
- First, have your family select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Lovely condo close to beach - pool access, elegant screened patio & washer\/dryer has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
