Getting the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Island oasis with balcony, beach access, pool, hot tub has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
