Vacation rental tips:
When to book & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To book the best rental home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking your prefect Hilton Head vacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Island oasis with balcony, beach access, pool, hot tub has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your contract.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
