Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, picking, and booking your prefectrental home:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Waterfront Condo with Ocean Views, Shared Pool, Hot Tub, and Covered Balcony has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
