Our top Rental home tips:
When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your vacation week and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Spacious condo with pool, tennis courts, & golf on-site has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
