Rental home tips:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the best vacation rental:
- Choose your vacation week and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. NEW! 1 BD Apt~Beach Access~Clean~Great Location~Quiet & NICE! Great for Couples! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
