Tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing and booking your prefectvacation home:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Marriott Sunset Pointe, 2025 PGA Tour RBC Heritage Week. 2 Bd 2Ba 1 week rental, has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is best for your family.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
