How to find the best vacation home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Reserve your Hilton Head vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select vacation week and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Homey Townhouse with Shared Hot Tub, Pool, Gym & Tennis - Walk to Beach has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Add the host's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
