Hilton Head vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the perfect vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Start by selecting your a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean from every room! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you long to visit, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
More tips for your visit:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
