Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local tours and attractions.
How to pick the perfect rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Ideally located condo with pool, tennis court, bikes, balcony, deck, W\/D & AC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
More tips for your visit:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
