Hilton Head rental home booking tips:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To book the best vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your search:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Water-view condo with pool, hot tub, gym, tennis, AC & W\/D has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
