Tips to get the very best vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Water-view condo with pool, hot tub, gym, tennis, AC & W\/D has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
