Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation home experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the largest rental within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and choosing a perfectrental:
- First, have your family choose trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. lofted villa with private deck, streaming, & W\/D - near Harbour Town has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
