Vacation rental booking tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Booking in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing the perfect rental home in Hilton Head:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Delightful villa near the beach - pool, tennis courts, lovely patio & fast WiFi has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If not, call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you simply love, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
