Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation property experience:
When to book a Hilton Head rental home & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To book the best rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Hilton Head restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking the right Hilton Head rental home:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Large Three Bedroom Villa Steps from the Pool! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
