Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:
Get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the perfect vacation rental in Hilton Head:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Large Three Bedroom Villa Steps from the Pool! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
