Rental home tips:
Getting the best rental value:
- Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. To find the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectvacation home:
- Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beautiful Three Bedroom Villa with Many Updates! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
