Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
Getting the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To book the best vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book your prefectrental:
- First, have your group select the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Sunset Rentals
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
