Our top Hilton Head rental home tips and tricks:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and pick the best Hilton Head rental:
- Select your vacation week and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Sunset Rentals
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you long to visit, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
