Our top Vacation rental home tips:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To book the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Selecting and booking your Hilton Head vacation home:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Penthouse Condo with Yacht Views! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If not, contact the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
