How to find the best vacation home experience:

When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
