Our top Hilton Head rental property booking tips:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • To start, have your group decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Ideal beach villa w\/ shared pool, golf course view, & more has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.

During your stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
