Our top Vacation rental tips:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Selecting the best rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Ideal beach villa w\/ shared pool, golf course view, & more has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
