Strategies for getting the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to choose and book the right Hilton Head rental:
- Select your vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Great Ocean views, Oceanfront Heated Pool! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you crave, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Have a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
