Our top Hilton Head rental property booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and choose your prefect Hilton Head rental:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Fully Updated Two Bedroom Condominium in the Heart of Palmetto Dunes! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you crave, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
