Getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. Reserve your Hilton Head vacation in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose a perfectvacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on date ranges and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly home with private pool & spa - close to beach has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective.
