Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing and booking a perfectvacation home:
- Select your dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Newly Updated Surf Court Villas Condo w\/ Big Pool - 1 Block to Beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
