How to book the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Get the best rental value:
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your group commit to trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 2-story house with private heated outdoor pool, stunning views & foosball has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your trip.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
