How to get the best vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, consider changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental in Hilton Head:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Many Updates in this Large Four Bedroom Villa with Golf Views! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
