How to get the best Hilton Head rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. To book the largest vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting the best rental home in Hilton Head:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Many Updates in this Large Four Bedroom Villa with Golf Views! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you simply love, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
More considerations:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
