Tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Come Enjoy this Two-Bedroom Condominium Just Steps from the Beach! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, call the property owner before you book the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
