How to book the best Hilton Head rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the perfect vacation home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Beautifully renovated 4 bedroom Hilton Head Island beach villa has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
