Getting the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Finding the best value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. Reserve your Hilton Head rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Luxurious all-suite home with a private pool and hot tub in a backyard paradise has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you long to visit, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
