Our top Rental home booking tips:
When to book a Hilton Head rental home & When to go:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Booking in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and picking the perfect Hilton Head rental:
- Start by having your group select a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Wonderfully Updated Three Bed Four Bath Villa Walking Distance to the Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
