Tricks and tips for getting the best vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Choose vacation week and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Beachfront escape with pools, hot tub, WiFi, washer\/dryer, & central AC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Additional considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
