Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting and booking the perfectvacation home:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Waterfront Penthouse Villa with Shared Pool and Ocean View - Close to the Beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
