Money saving strategies:
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
