Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking yourrental:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Ocean Breeze 59
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or applied to your invoice.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
