Strategies to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental home:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Very Large and Completely Updated Villa on the 11 Mile Lagoon System! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
