Getting the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Make a plan and pick the bestrental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Luxury Four Bedroom Home Third Row From the Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you book the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your contract.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Tips for your stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
