Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head rental experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and choose your prefectrental home:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Luxury Four Bedroom Home Third Row From the Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
