How to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Book your vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Choosing the perfect rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 105 Barrington Arms- Totally Updated Oceanfront Condominium! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If not, reach out to the host before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
