Booking the best rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the rightrental home:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Third-floor condo with pool access, fast WiFi, & washer\/dryer - close to beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, record any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
