Rental property booking tips:

Finding the best value:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Selecting the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:

  • Select your dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Lovely single level Palmetto Dunes home with a pool and lagoon views! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
