How to get the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many property management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Spacious Villa with Shared Pool, Hot tub & Lagoon Views - Walk to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
