Our top Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- To find the largest rental within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your family decide on a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Spacious villa, short walk to the beach, golf, pool has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
