Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the best Hilton Head vacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. 55 Sea Lane - short walk to beach with lagoon and golf course views!! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
