Our top Hilton Head rental home tips:
When to book a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, change your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking your prefect Hilton Head rental:
- To start, have your group select vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. 55 Sea Lane - short walk to beach with lagoon and golf course views!! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your trip.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
