Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and picking the bestrental:
- Start by having your group commit to date ranges and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Recently Updated, Family-Friendly Beach Home w\/ a Private Pool & Pool Spa has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the host before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
