Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- To get the largest rental home within budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront condo w\/free WiFi, balcony, shared pool & tennis court, & private W\/D has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property owner before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you crave, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
