Tricks and tips to get the best Hilton Head rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select vacation week and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Oceanfront condo w\/free WiFi, balcony, shared pool & tennis court, & private W\/D has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is optimal for your family.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you long to visit, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
