Strategies for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To book the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking the perfectrental home:
- Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Modern condo with spectacular view of pool, 7 courts for tennis & pickleball has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
