Strategies for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your Hilton Head vacation in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing and booking a perfectrental:
- Begin by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 18 Sand Dollar, Oceanfront, Pool, Hot Tub, Free Golf, Elevator has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or could be applied to your agreement.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
