How to get the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your Hilton Head rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Finding the perfect rental:

  • Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 9 Sandy Beach, Close to Beach, Pool, Elevator, Game Room, Free Golf has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • At Check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
