Rental property booking tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best rental home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Oceanfront Villa with Shared Pools, Hot tub, and Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is optimal for your trip.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
