How to find the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Book your rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your group commit to trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Wonderfully Decorated Two Bedroom Water Oak Villa! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you simply love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
