Tricks and tips for getting the perfect rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your group select trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Inviting villa with on-site golf, tennis and pool plus 2 patios, games has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
