Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • To book the largest vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Finding the perfect vacation rental:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Newly updated kitchen conveniently located in Palmetto Dunes! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
